Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade, a winter oud fragrance

168 winter fragrances, ranked by our own customers

Posted by Cologne Curators on

The short version

  • Highest-rated with real volume: Emporio Armani Stronger With You Absolutely and Givenchy Gentleman Réserve Privée, both 4.7, both with 46–50 reviews behind them.
  • Most-reviewed winter fragrance we sell: Stronger With You Intensely — 4.6 across 209 reviews, more than double any other entry.
  • The one that surprised us: Paco Rabanne 1 Million EDT sits at 3.9, our lowest-rated winter entry with meaningful volume — while 1 Million Parfum, from the same line, is 4.8.
  • Ignore the 5.0s. Four of our winter fragrances are rated a perfect 5.0. Each has between one and seven reviews. That is not a ranking, it is a rounding error.
  • Winter does not require money. Lattafa Khamrah is $2.29 a sample and Afnan 9pm is $2.99. Both rate above 4.3.

Most "best winter fragrances" lists are somebody's opinion arranged into a countdown. We can do something a little more useful, because we sell 168 of them and our customers rate what they buy.

So this is not our ranking. It is theirs. Our job here was to sort it and then be honest about what the numbers do and do not support.

Every figure below was taken from our own winter fragrances collection on 2 September 2026. Ratings move. We will refresh this in January.

How we did this, and why

Two rules, both of which cost us some flattering numbers.

A rating without volume is not a rating. We have winter fragrances sitting at a perfect 5.0. Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb Infrared has four reviews. Carolina Herrera Bad Boy Elixir has seven. Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 Extrait has one. Any of those could be excellent. None of them has been tested by enough people to say so, and putting them at the top of a list would be misleading in a way that happens to suit us commercially. So we didn't.

We are not excluding the bad news. A ranking that only shows what performs well is an advertisement. Where our own customers have rated something poorly, it is below.

The top of the list

What the review counts change

Read that table again with the third column doing the work, and a different fragrance wins.

Stronger With You Intensely is rated 4.6, which is eighth on the list. It has 209 reviews. The next most-reviewed winter fragrance we sell has 87. Nothing else is close.

A 4.6 held steady across two hundred people is a far stronger claim than a 4.9 held by twelve. Twelve people is a good afternoon. Two hundred is a verdict — it means the fragrance survived being bought by a broad, unfiltered range of customers with different skin, different climates and different expectations, and most of them were still happy.

If you want one winter fragrance and you want the lowest chance of disappointment, this is the evidence-based answer. It is chypre-adjacent, sweet, warm, and it is not subtle — but a great many people have now confirmed that it works.

The 1 Million problem

Paco Rabanne's 1 Million line is the most heavily represented family in our winter collection — five separate versions. Our customers rate them very differently, and the pattern is worth knowing before you buy.

Version Rating Reviews
1 Million Parfum 4.8 35
1 Million Lucky EDT 4.7 29
1 Million Elixir Parfum Intense 4.7 17
1 Million Royal Parfum 4.4 7
1 Million EDT — the original 3.9 28

The original EDT — the one most people mean when they say "1 Million" — is rated a full point below the Parfum, across a comparable number of reviews. It is the lowest-rated fragrance with meaningful volume in our entire winter collection.

We are not going to pretend to know exactly why. A reasonable guess is that a fragrance released in 2008 and worn by an enormous number of people carries a familiarity problem that the newer, denser Parfum concentration does not. Whatever the cause, our customers are consistent about it.

The practical upshot: if you remember liking 1 Million years ago and want it back for winter, buy the Parfum, not the EDT. It is $3.99 either way. There is no reason to guess.

Under five dollars

Winter fragrance has a reputation for being the expensive season — heavier materials, extrait concentrations, oud. Our own numbers do not really support that.

  • Lattafa Khamrah EDP — 4.4 from 21 reviews, from $2.29. Cinnamon, dates and vanilla. The cheapest thing on this page and better rated than several fragrances at five times the price.
  • Afnan 9pm EDP — 4.3 from 54 reviews, from $2.99. Sweet, apple-and-vanilla, extremely popular and priced like it isn't.
  • Bad Boy Cobalt EDP — 4.8 from 29 reviews, from $3.29. The best rating-to-price ratio in the collection.

Three samples from that list costs under nine dollars and covers most of what winter asks for.

Worth the jump in price

Two entries cost real money and we would still point you at them.

Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade at $11.99 is the most expensive sample in the winter collection and rates 4.1 across 38 reviews — respectable rather than spectacular. It is a rose-and-oud fragrance with a genuine reputation, and it is also polarizing, which is precisely what the 4.1 is telling you. This is a fragrance to sample rather than assume. If you want to know more about the house first, we compared four Louis Vuittons side by side.

Dior Homme Parfum at $7.99 sits at 4.0 from nine reviews. Iris and leather, restrained, and a considerable distance from the sweet gourmand direction most of this list runs in. If everything above sounds too sugary, start here.

How to actually buy from this list

If you want one: Stronger With You Intensely, $3.99, on the weight of 209 reviews.

If you want three: Bad Boy Cobalt, Lattafa Khamrah and 1 Million Parfum. Under eleven dollars, three genuinely different directions — fresh-spicy, gourmand-oriental, sweet-metallic — and enough to find out which way your winter goes.

If you would rather not choose: the Winter Cologne Sampler Set is $14.99 and rates 4.3 from 31 reviews.

Whichever you pick, run the three-day test on it before you think about a bottle. Winter fragrances are the easiest to over-apply and the hardest to take back.

Questions we get asked

What is the best winter fragrance for men?

By our own customer data, Emporio Armani Stronger With You Intensely — rated 4.6 across 209 reviews, more than double the review volume of anything else in our winter collection. Higher-rated fragrances exist in the collection, but none has been confirmed by nearly as many buyers.

Why do winter fragrances smell stronger?

They usually are stronger, and cold air also changes how you perceive them. Winter compositions lean on heavier base materials — vanilla, amber, resins, oud, tobacco — which evaporate more slowly than the citrus and aquatic materials used in summer. Cold air carries less scent, so those fragrances are built louder to compensate. Wear one indoors in a heated room and it can be overwhelming.

How many sprays of a winter fragrance should I use?

Fewer than you think. Two to three sprays of a winter parfum concentration is often enough indoors; four to five outdoors in genuinely cold weather. These are the fragrances most commonly over-applied.

Is 1 Million EDT or 1 Million Parfum better?

Our customers rate the Parfum considerably higher — 4.8 from 35 reviews against 3.9 from 28 for the original EDT. Both are the same price as samples, so there is no reason to guess. The Parfum is denser and sweeter; the EDT is the 2008 original.

What is the cheapest good winter fragrance sample?

Lattafa Khamrah at $2.29, rated 4.4 from 21 reviews. Cinnamon, dates and vanilla, and better rated than several fragrances in our winter collection costing five times as much.

About these numbers. Every rating, review count and price on this page was taken from our own product pages on 2 September 2026 and reflects reviews left by verified Cologne Curators customers. Ratings move as more people buy and review; we refresh this piece each January. If a figure here no longer matches the product page, the product page is right.
